What are Invisalign® Aligners?

Our team recognizes that some patients prefer a more aesthetic and less noticeable approach to treatment and thus has become one of the premier Invisalign providers in Connecticut. Our very own Dr. Baum has been a C.E. speaker on behalf of Invisalign aligners and was an investigational doctor for Invisalign Teen when it was in its research and development stage. He was also the first recognized Invisalign Teen provider in our area, including all of Connecticut.

Baum Braces is also proud to be recognized as a Diamond Provider of Invisalign. Although all Invisalign providers are trained and certified, very few receive the status of Diamond Provider. Diamond status means our orthodontics team is in the top 1% of all Invisalign providers in the country. This puts our skill and experience at a level you can feel confident about.

Choosing to straighten your teeth is a big decision that affects not only your appearance but your lifestyle as well. As an adult, you may be looking to improve your smile for business, social, or lifestyle reasons. Or, perhaps you’re a teen or the parent of a teen looking for an effective yet modern solution. Either way, Invisalign aligners can provide a simple way to accomplish this without having to put your life on hold. Take a moment to learn more about the Invisalign treatment process and how it can help you.

Just in case you don’t know what it is: Invisalign aligners allows Dr. Baum and Dr. Blanck to use very sophisticated 3D design software to customize your orthodontic treatment just for you. The other cool thing is that the treatment itself does not involve the use of any braces or wires. A series of clear invisible plastic aligners are worn day and night over the course of your treatment resulting in a transformation of your smile. These aligners are made of smooth, comfortable, and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your orthodontist plans out for you. You just pop in a new set of aligners once a week until your treatment is complete. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.

Just remember, Invisalign treatment in the hands of one doctor is not the same as another. As Premier Invisalign Providers in Connecticut, Dr. Baum and Dr. Blanck can treat even some of the most complex cases with predictable results you'll love. In fact, we can show you a preview of your future smile before you even get started!

I just started my Invisalign treatment at the Newtown office and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Dr. Baum was excellent and walked me through each step of the process. Jessica, the assistant who placed my attachments, was amazing, super precise, gentle, and made the whole process feel smooth from start to finish. Sylviane was also so sweet and welcoming, keeping things light and making sure I was comfortable the whole time. The team here is professional, friendly, and clearly cares about their patients. I highly recommend Baum Braces if you’re considering Invisalign!

How Do I Best Care For My Aligners?

To keep your aligners clean:

  1. Brush them with a toothbrush and water.
  2. Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.
  3. After, brush and floss your teeth to ensure you are not trapping in or transferring bacteria.

Trapping food debris between your teeth and the aligner may increase plaque buildup, so make time in your daily routine to maintain your oral health. When you’re not wearing your aligners, store them in the case included with your treatment.

Are There Any Food Restrictions?

You can eat anything you like with Invisalign treatment, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Since you have to remove your aligners to eat, you’ll want to make sure you brush your teeth before putting them back in.
  • Sugary and sticky foods can get stuck in your aligners and be challenging to remove. So, if you’re going to eat something like that, it’s best to do it before you put your aligners in for the day.
  • It’s not a good idea to drink coffee or tea while wearing aligners because these liquids can rest between the aligners and your teeth, causing cavities or plaque buildup — not to mention staining your aligners.

There are no true dietary restrictions as long as you remove the aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water and brush before replacing them in your mouth.

Do I Still Need To See My Dentist While In Treatment?

Yes! You should see your dentist every six months for a cleaning and check-up. While you will be checking in with your orthodontist, it is still vital to get cleanings periodically to ensure you take care of your teeth while you have the aligners on. Baum Braces will be focused on correcting your teeth and jaw rather than cleaning. Regular dentist appointments are best for successful treatment.

How Do I Know If Invisalign Treatment Is Right For Me?

Generally, Invisalign treatment is suitable for people of all ages with varying degrees of correction. However, you should only consider the aligner system if you can keep them in place for approximately 22 hours daily. If you believe you will have difficulty taking the aligners out or will forget to put them back in, you may want to consider another option, such as braces, which will allow you to more easily stay on track with your treatment.

As long as you feel confident in being able to stick with wearing your aligners (they don't work if you don't wear 'em), there's a good chance Invisalign treatment will work for you. The best way to find out is with a free consultation with Dr. Baum or Dr. Blanck.

What Happens After Treatment?

You will be provided with a set of custom-made, clear retainers. These must be worn nightly to keep your new smile in place. It is important to note that none of your previous aligners should be used as retainers. The aligners are prone to cracking and are made of thinner material for short-term wear. Your final retainer will be made of a more durable material that will last several years. Generally, you must wear the retainer all day, every day for at least six months. After the first six months, you should only have to wear the retainer while sleeping.
