Certain foods, such as anything sticky, hard, or tough to bite into, should be avoided while wearing braces. It’s critical to eat a well-balanced diet and avoid too many sugary snacks and drinks.
Cleaning Teeth With Braces
Brushing and flossing regularly to avoid cavities or other oral health problems is essential. Be sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and be gentle when brushing around the brackets and wires. How Braces for Teens Work
Both ceramic and traditional braces work by gradually moving the teeth into the desired position by applying gentle and consistent pressure. A series of brackets are attached to the front side of each tooth and a wire is used to connect those brackets together. The strength of the wire is how the teeth gently move into their desired positions over time.
Depending on the severity of the case, the treatment process can last anywhere from six months to two years. It really depends on your treatment plan and how well you adhere to this plan and our instructions. Dr. Baum, Dr. Blanck, and their team will go over the treatment plan with you in detail and give you a good estimate for the exact length of time at the initial visit.
Types Of Braces For Teens
There are several types of braces on the market today, each with its advantages. We offer two options for your teen that have been proven the most effective at treating a range of issues: traditional metal braces and clear ceramic braces. Your orthodontist can discuss these options with you during your initial consultation, during which he and his team will assess your teen’s specific case.
Traditional Braces
Metal braces are made of stainless steel and are the most common type. They are solid and long-lasting, making them ideal for teenagers participating in sports or other extracurricular activities.
Clear Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are clear and made of ceramic material, making them a more discreet option. They are ideal for teens who may be a bit uncomfortable with the idea of noticeable treatment.
