Braces For Teens In Newtown & Monroe, CT

As your child enters their teenage years, they may feel self-conscious about their appearance. This is perfectly normal, and one way to help boost their confidence is by getting them in braces. Here at Baum Braces, we have various options for braces available so that your teen is confident with the fit and appearance of their braces during the treatment process.

Many teens may be concerned about how braces will fit into their lifestyle. Braces are not meant to disrupt your lifestyle or get in the way of anything fun! However, there are a few things to keep in mind so that you have the best treatment experience possible.

Eating With Braces

Certain foods, such as anything sticky, hard, or tough to bite into, should be avoided while wearing braces. It’s critical to eat a well-balanced diet and avoid too many sugary snacks and drinks.

Cleaning Teeth With Braces

Brushing and flossing regularly to avoid cavities or other oral health problems is essential. Be sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and be gentle when brushing around the brackets and wires. To prevent plaque buildup and the development of cavities, brush and floss around and between the wires at an angle. Our team can show you some additional tools and techniques to help!

Playing Sports With Braces

Wearing a mouthguard is crucial in any contact sport. This will help protect the teeth and gums from injury. Ask our team about the best kind of mouthguard to wear over your braces.

Both ceramic and traditional braces work by gradually moving the teeth into the desired position by applying gentle and consistent pressure. A series of brackets are attached to the front side of each tooth and a wire is used to connect those brackets together. The strength of the wire is how the teeth gently move into their desired positions over time.

Depending on the severity of the case, the treatment process can last anywhere from six months to two years. It really depends on your treatment plan and how well you adhere to this plan and our instructions. Dr. Baum, Dr. Blanck, and their team will go over the treatment plan with you in detail and give you a good estimate for the exact length of time at the initial visit.

Types Of Braces For Teens

There are several types of braces on the market today, each with its advantages. We offer two options for your teen that have been proven the most effective at treating a range of issues: traditional metal braces and clear ceramic braces. Your orthodontist can discuss these options with you during your initial consultation, during which he and his team will assess your teen’s specific case.

Traditional Braces

Metal braces are made of stainless steel and are the most common type. They are solid and long-lasting, making them ideal for teenagers participating in sports or other extracurricular activities.

Clear Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are clear and made of ceramic material, making them a more discreet option. They are ideal for teens who may be a bit uncomfortable with the idea of noticeable treatment.

The type of braces that will work best for your teen will depend on his or her specific preferences and issues needing correction. Before deciding, our team at Baum Braces will review all your options and answer any questions you or your teen may have.

I just started my Invisalign treatment at the Newtown office and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Dr. Baum was excellent and walked me through each step of the process. Jessica, the assistant who placed my attachments, was amazing, super precise, gentle, and made the whole process feel smooth from start to finish. Sylviane was also so sweet and welcoming, keeping things light and making sure I was comfortable the whole time. The team here is professional, friendly, and clearly cares about their patients. I highly recommend Baum Braces if you’re considering Invisalign!

All three kids are in braces right now and we, collectively, cannot think of one thing we haven't liked about Baum. The points program is awesome, they are so accomodating when brackets or wires go wonky, they have two offices so we could always go in on the day we wanted, very easy to fiddle with payment dates and cards, and so much more. Zero pain points from start to finish....and we are almost finished! Thanks to everyone at Baum!
